Allegation Research Misconduct

Allegation of Research Misconduct

Commitment to Research Integrity
The Journal of Language and Pragmatics Studies (JLPS) is committed to promoting responsible research practices, transparency, accountability, and trust in scholarly publishing. All allegations of research misconduct will be handled in a timely, impartial, and responsible manner, guided by recognized publication ethics principles and the journal's editorial policies.
JLPS recognizes the importance of research integrity in advancing knowledge in language studies, pragmatics, linguistics, discourse analysis, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, and related disciplines. The journal seeks to ensure that published research is accurate, original, ethically conducted, and reported transparently.

Scope of Research Misconduct
Research misconduct may include, but is not limited to, fabrication or falsification of research data, plagiarism, inappropriate manipulation of images or research results, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, unethical research practices, and other forms of conduct that undermine the integrity, reliability, or originality of scholarly work.
In the context of language and pragmatics research, potential misconduct may also include the fabrication or misrepresentation of interview transcripts, conversational data, linguistic examples, corpus materials, translations, or participant responses; the unauthorized use of recordings or private communications; the manipulation or selective reporting of linguistic evidence; and the inappropriate use of artificial intelligence to generate, alter, or misrepresent research data or scholarly content.
Allegations may concern manuscripts submitted for publication, articles under review, or papers already published in JLPS.

Reporting Allegations
Authors, reviewers, editors, readers, and other stakeholders who have reasonable concerns about potential research misconduct are encouraged to report them to the JLPS editorial office through the journal's official communication channels.
Reports should include relevant details and supporting evidence, where available, to facilitate a fair and thorough assessment. Evidence may include documented discrepancies in research data, concerns about originality, questionable use of sources, irregularities in research procedures, or information indicating possible violations of research ethics.
All reports will be treated seriously, and the identity of the complainant will be handled confidentially to the extent reasonably possible, subject to the requirements of a fair investigation and applicable legal or institutional obligations.

Assessment and Investigation
Upon receiving an allegation, the editorial team will conduct a preliminary assessment to determine whether the concern warrants further investigation. Where appropriate, the journal may request clarification, supporting documentation, research records, or a response from the authors concerned.
Investigations will be conducted objectively and fairly, ensuring that all relevant parties have an appropriate opportunity to provide information and respond to the concerns raised.
When necessary, JLPS may consult independent experts, contact the authors' affiliated institutions, or seek guidance from relevant research integrity bodies. In cases involving linguistic data, interview transcripts, recordings, corpus materials, or other sensitive research materials, the journal will take reasonable steps to protect confidential information and respect applicable privacy and ethical requirements.
The journal will not make a determination of misconduct solely on the basis of an unverified allegation. All decisions will be based on the available evidence and the principles of fairness, confidentiality, and due process.

Editorial Actions and Corrective Measures
If an allegation is substantiated, JLPS will take appropriate action in accordance with the seriousness and nature of the misconduct and the journal's editorial policies.
Possible actions may include:
Requesting corrections or clarifications to the manuscript.
Rejecting a manuscript that does not meet the journal's ethical or scholarly standards.
Publishing an expression of concern when significant questions about an article remain unresolved.
Retracting a published article when the findings or publication are shown to be unreliable or when serious ethical violations justify retraction.
Restricting future submissions where justified by the circumstances and consistent with the journal's policies.
Notifying relevant institutions, research integrity bodies, or other appropriate parties when necessary and appropriate.
Any correction, expression of concern, or retraction will be communicated transparently through the journal's publication channels, with an explanation of the reasons for the action, while respecting applicable confidentiality and privacy requirements.
JLPS aims to ensure that corrective measures are proportionate to the findings of the investigation and contribute to maintaining the accuracy and reliability of the scholarly record.

Confidentiality and Protection Against Retaliation
JLPS will make reasonable efforts to protect the confidentiality of all parties involved in the assessment and investigation of allegations. Information will be disclosed only when necessary to investigate the concern, comply with applicable requirements, or implement appropriate editorial actions.
The journal does not tolerate knowingly false, malicious, or deliberately misleading allegations. At the same time, individuals who raise concerns in good faith should not be subjected to retaliation or unfair treatment.
Authors and other parties involved in an investigation are expected to cooperate honestly and provide relevant information when requested. Any handling of personal information, confidential correspondence, recordings, transcripts, or research data will be conducted with due regard for applicable ethical and privacy requirements.

Appeals and Review
Authors or other affected parties may submit a reasoned appeal if they believe that an editorial decision concerning an allegation of research misconduct was based on incomplete information, procedural irregularities, or a demonstrable error in assessment.
Appeals will be reviewed impartially, and additional information may be requested where necessary. Where appropriate, the journal may seek an independent assessment to support a fair review of the matter.
The journal's final decision will be communicated to the relevant parties with an appropriate explanation, subject to applicable confidentiality requirements and editorial policies.

Commitment to Ethical Publishing
JLPS recognizes that maintaining research integrity is a shared responsibility among authors, editors, reviewers, institutions, and the wider scholarly community. The journal is committed to upholding ethical publishing standards, addressing concerns responsibly, and implementing appropriate corrective measures to preserve the accuracy and credibility of the scholarly record.
Through this policy, the Journal of Language and Pragmatics Studies (JLPS) seeks to foster a culture of academic honesty, responsible research, and ethical collaboration. The journal encourages scholars to uphold high standards of integrity in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of linguistic and pragmatic research, thereby contributing to the advancement of reliable and ethically sound scholarship in language studies and related disciplines.
